Helensburgh Tunnels

Helensburgh Tunnels - A Walk Back in Time Seven tunnels were built around Helensburgh in 1888, forming the "Gateway" for the old South coast rail line connecting Wollongong to Sydney. These tunnels were eventually abandoned in 1915 after new wider tunnels were built to cope with the demand. Today only six tunnels remain, Otford, Lilyvale 1 & 2, Helensburgh, Metropolitan aka "Glow worm tunnel" and Cawley Tunnel.
